When bacteria settle and begin to colonise surfaces they communicate with each other. By releasing signaling molecules in a process called quorum sensing, they can coordinate the generation of toxins and the creation of biofilms, in order to defend themselves.

QuoNova is commercializing novel quorum sensing blocker (QSB) technology which affects this signaling and has led to the identification of substances which inhibit bacterial colonization and biofilm development.
