Unmet Need: Biofilms of complex mixtures of species are responsible for dental plaque, caries and halitosis. While addition of biocides to dentifrice and mouthwash preparations has marked a step forward in the fight against tooth decay, there is a need for more sophisticated, less toxic approaches

Products: Compounds have been selected based on their activity in vitro against relevant oral bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans.

Status: Selected substances are currently undergoing formulation studies.

Eye care

Unmet Need: While, in percentage terms, the number of bacterial biofilm related infections in contact lens wearers is small, the widespread use of these devices generates a significant population which has a problem at any one time. There is therefore a significant need for an approach which would allow incorporation of an efficacious biofilm inhibitor in lens material.

Products: QuoNova is selecting compounds based on compatibility with lens materials or activity against relevant organisms.

Status: Compatibility and optimization studies have been started.
